About this feature: Because of SOA's enticing benefits, many organizations are tempted to jump into this enormous undertaking before fully considering the implications to their existing systems. Before moving toward SOA, develop a plan and strategy that includes a reasonable implementation time frame. Such a plan should include a definition of your IT architecture and a topology and road map for implementation. You also need to understand your current IT environment to see which components can be used in the newly defined SOA strategy and which need to be modernized before being wrapped as services. This is perhaps the most critical part of the plan, and far too many organizations skip or gloss over it only to pay the price later in lost time and resources. |
