Although there are compelling reasons for pursuing SOA initiatives, the road to enterprise-scale SOA is not easy and can be loaded with potholes. Even large IT organizations with environments that center around their SAP applications must nevertheless deal with heterogeneous and other legacy assets, deploy new services across these disparate platforms, as well as governing and managing these services. Planning for scalability and performance is another issue that needs to be addressed if real-time business is to be achieved. In addition BPM and Complex Event Processing (CEP) are other value-added technologies that can play a vital role which can move an organization beyond real-time and into the realm of predictive business. This webinar will review SOA best practices in SAP-centric environments and provide guidelines to help you avoid common mistakes as well as plan a more dynamic SOA roadmap.

Why you should attend:
  • Understand the inherent benefits -- and risks -- of pursuing an enterprise-scale SOA initiative
  • Avoid the landmines that can cause delays and increase costs
  • Learn best-practices for integrating SAP with other heterogeneous IT assets
  • See how a platform independent approach to SOA can improve developer productivity, reduce costs and accelerate time-to-market
  • Learn how CEP and an event-driven SOA can help you become more predictive in the way you manage your business

Everyone who attend this webinar will receive a copy of the book "Succeeding with SOA: Realizing Business Value Through Total Architecture" by Paul C. Brown.

In his book Dr. Brown shows how SOAs provide the best structure for designing business processes and IT systems as part of a total architecture to help collaborating entities realize their enterprise goals. Drawing on decades of experience, he explains what business managers and IT architects absolutely need to know: how to understand critical success factors and avoid common failures.

Featured Speaker Bios:

Dr. Paul C. Brown is a software and systems architect with a deep background in the design of distributed information systems. His early work focused on fault-tolerant real-time monitoring and safety systems. Subsequent work on distributed decision support systems evolved into a more general interest in the design of event-driven distributed systems using model-based design methodologies. His model-based tool architectures are the foundation of a diverse family of applications that design distributed control systems, process control interfaces, internal combustion engines, and NASA satellite missions. Extensive design work on enterprise-scale information systems led Dr. Brown to recognize that service-oriented architectures inherently structure both business processes and information systems. This led to the concept of Total Architecture: that business processes and information systems must be architected together. The Total Architecture approach has proved itself building numerous information systems for global enterprises and the Fortune-500. Dr. Brown has authored a pair of books on Total Architecture that will be released by Addison Wesley early in 2007. Dr. Brown received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Union College, and his MS and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is presently a Principal Software Architect at TIBCO Software Inc.

Beth Gold-Bernstein is an author and independent consultant specializing in SOA solutions. www.gold-bernstein.com.

Quick Guide: What is Enterprise 2.0?

A lot of people are talking about Enterprise 2.0 as being the business application of Web 2.0 technology. However, there's still some debate on exactly what this technology entails, how it applies to today's business models, and which components bring true value. Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
