Most organizations today are moving steadily toward implementing a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) for standards-based software interoperability and business flexibility. However, most organizations forget about the data issues associated with true interoperability until it's too late. This MetaMatrix Webinar, featuring Gartner, will discuss how Data Services can address the data access, interoperability and re-use challenges within SOA environments.

Part 1 - Featuring Gartner
Ted Friedman, Gartner Research VP, will present the following:
Where Data Meets SOA: The Emerging Data Services Vision
The concept of data services is gaining interest as an approach for ensuring that data and data integration challenges in SOA are adequately addressed. Data services will increasingly become recognized as a critical component of SOA initiatives. This portion of the Webinar will explore the data-oriented challenges in SOA and how data services can assist in addressing those challenges. The key issues addressed in this presentation will include:

  • Why are data and data integration critical to achieving the flexibility and interoperability benefits of SOA?
  • What is the concept of data services and how can it address these challenges?
  • What are the classes of data services and what roles do they play?
  • How do metadata and semantics impact the deployment of data services and SOA?

Part 2 - Featuring MetaMatrix
Craig Muzilla, MetaMatrix, will present the following:
Deploying Data Services: Real World Lessons and Solutions for Data Interoperability
In this part of the Webinar, we'll discuss how the best practices in Data Services involve metadata and using data modeling to facilitate vocabulary driven transformations. This portion of the Webinar will also discuss how a new class of model-driven software products called data services management systems is helping companies create, deploy and manage their data services. This presentation discusses how these solutions can facilitate greater data sharing and consistency while reducing development cost and time. The key issues addressed in this part will include:

  • Best practices in creating, deploying and managing data services
  • How a data models help drive data consistency, re-use while reconciling semantic and other data differences
  • What role does metadata play
  • How data services can be used to deploy real-time views of data across multiple data sources
  • Real world experiences of data services to provide "single view of customers"
