CIOs are tired of supporting hundreds of duplicative programs and redundant systems. This accidental architecture has high maintenance costs and prohibits the flexible delivery of new application functionality to the Lines of Business. Unfortunately, pursuing a “rip-and-replace” strategy is not a good option either. The cost would be astronomical and the turmoil could cost you your job.

Instead, incrementally build a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA). This will allow your company to build high-value composite applications on top of your existing infrastructure while providing a graceful means to retire legacy applications as they reach their natural "end of life."

However, it takes much more than Web Services to implement an SOA and to enable the development of these new composite applications. To be effective in creating a complete SOA framework, you also need application integration, B2B communications, portal, business activity monitoring (BAM) and master data management functionality.

Industry expert Dr. Ian Howells, SeeBeyond's VP of Worldwide Marketing, Ross Altman, SeeBeyond's Chief Technology Officer, and Andy Mayer, Manager of the IT Shared Services Group, Emerson will discuss these issues…
