EDI used to be relatively uncomplicated. Batch files were transferred over dedicated lines and all the partners utilized the same software to send and receive transmissions. The downside was that it was expensive and only the largest trading partners could participate. Now it is possible to exchange real-time data over the Internet with customers, partners and suppliers. However, the solutions are becoming more complex. Participants in the data exchange may use different software, utilize different protocols, and data formats. This presentation will talk about the evolution of EDI, including the options and challenges involved in the new era of B2B data exchange.
