The Enterprise Services Bus (ESB) has become a staple of large- and medium-scale business integration. But the boundaries separating ESBs from other integration platform middleware have blurred, as new hybrids have emerged, blending ESB capabilities with process orchestration, data transformation, and other integration services.
What began as an alternative to heavyweight integration platform suites has now become a functional layer in larger integration offerings. While this might frustrate best-of-breed integration strategists, it is a boon to companies with limited resources and IT skill sets, for whom middleware architecture is secondary to the integration and deployment of new applications and partner processes.
In this webcast, we’ll examine the role and contributions of ESB technology in midsized company projects, focusing specifically on these questions:

Jim O'Leary is an accomplished high-tech marketing executive with eighteen years of software and services marketing experience in integration and enterprise middleware, application development environments, database management systems, and other software technologies.
Joseph (Joe) Baran is a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of EXTOL. He is the principal designer of EXTOL’s software products, and has developed the Company’s technology and Support Center in PA. Prior toEXTOL,he worked for General Electric Space Division where he was responsible for both hardware and software design for the LandSat communications satellites. He was cited twice as the NASA Young Engineer of the Year. He has also held a number of technical and consulting positions in the manufacturing and engineering industries. Mr. Baran received a B.A. in Architecture and Urban Planning from Princeton University in 1973, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University in 1977, and an M.S. in Systems Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
