The new position of a Corporate Chief Innovation Officer has been created in the last 10 years in a few companies, but what are the roles, responsibilities, and the capabilities of someone who is in this role or wants to get into this type of position. This hands on research was applied by the author to attempt to define a model for a "best in class" model on the chief innovator of a company.

  • What are the issues with this role?
  • What are the responsibilities in this position?
  • What are the typical expectations and the measures of effectiveness?
  • What are the attributes of someone who is in this role?
  • What skills need to be developed if you don’t have them in someone that you want for such a position?

    It would seem these are important questions to get answers to along to be able to gather together the key aspects of the job that likely make up what needs to be in the person that is going to have to get the job done, effectively that is.
