Please help me with a story I'm reporting!

FirstEnergy Corp. expanded the responsibilities of several of its senior executives, including its CIO, reportedly in order to broaden their experience and better prepare them to move into new roles following the retirement of other FirstEnergy executives that are “expected…in the near future,” according to the press release. As of March 1, Bennett Gaines, FirstEnergy’s vice president of information technology and CIO, will take charge of corporate security. Gaines reports to Mark Clark, the SVP in charge of strategic planning and operations. He joined FirstEnergy at the end of January 2006. James Whitley was promoted from manager of corporate security to director of that function. Whitley reports to Gaines. CIO featured Bennett Gaines, while he was CIO of Cinergy, in an article on successful outsourcing strategies that appeared in the October 1, 2005 issue of the magazine.

Clinsys Clinical Research is also expanding the roles of some of its executives. The Berkeley Heights, N.J.-based clinical research company named its CIO, Ferrell Drewry, vice president of biometrics. He previously served as CIO at INC Research, director of IT at PharmaResearch Corp., and held several management positions with the SAS  Institute.

After a year and a half on the job, Todd Miller earned a promotion at The San Francisco Chronicle. Miller joined the publishing company in September 2005 as its director of advertising, finance and systems. In that position he was responsible for all financial analysis and operations, budgeting, advertising rates and analysis and systems deployment for the advertising team. He is now the company’s CIO.

The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reported that Communifax Corp. expanded its IT department with two new hires.  Michael Jeffrey joined the manager of consumer marketing programs as its VP of IT and CIO from New Perspective Productions, where he was CTO.  Tanya St. Esprit joined Communifax as a developer focusing on web-based surveys and reports. She also came over from New Perspective Productions.
