04/09/2004 Product Quicktake: InterSystems Ensemble
Almost every company has been stretching to do more with less -- to modernize legacy applications, to rapidly develop functionality to extend existing aplications or meet new business demands, and to integrate disparate applications and data into a cohesive platform that meets dynamic business requirements. Unfortunately, individual technical answers to these problems result in piecemeal solutions that are inflexible and difficult to maintain, while solutions based on traditional broad-based integration platforms are often complex, expensive to develop, and require months if not years to complete. What organizations need is a way to rapidly develop composite applications that integrate new business functionality with existing application logic or data.Ensemble, by InterSystems Corporation, is a comprehensive integration platform designed to meet this need.
02/10/2004 Product Spotlight: WRQ Verastream Gold Club Protected
Verastream, by WRQ, is a host integration server that enables organizations to take legacy applications and reuse them in new business initiatives. It supports legacy extension or "Web-refacing" (where the legacy application still follows the original workflow and steps but the user interface is simplified), integration of legacy information with modern applications, and transformation of legacy applications through programmatic integration to create new composite applications (for situations where legacy access is needed, but is in the form of a new workflow or different order from the original workflow on the legacy application).

06/18/2003 Product Quicktake: iWay Business Services
A fundamental component of any integration project is connecting to, and exchanging information with, a wide range of data sources and applications (either within an organization or from outside). A Web services approach (via a collection of standards that include XML, SOAP, and WSDL) is rapidly becoming the preferred way to make these connections, as well as a way of opening up legacy resources and complex application packages (ERP, SCM, CRM, etc.) for integration. In many cases, Web services are quickly being adopted as a universal interface, thus replacing platform and vendor-specific proprietary interfaces.
06/13/2003 Product Spotlight: ProActivity Gold Club Protected
Business process integration and management are becoming critical to e-business success. e-Business requires companies to shrink business cycles to respond quickly to new competitive threats and opportunities. ProActivity is the first tool we have seen that reduces the skills and time required to discover business processes. More important, it reduces the time that business experts need to be involved.

06/13/2003 Product Quicktake: FileNet P8
FileNet P8 allows corporate data to be activated to automate complex business processes and the exchange of data among them, making it very different from typical content management applications. Traditionally, content has been a passive element in content management systems, simply stored or accessed by users. FileNet P8's object-driven model and event-driven architecture make it possible for changes in content to trigger changes in other applications. Conversely, changes made in an enterprise system could trigger changes to content or launch a specific business process automatically.

The latest release provides a path to a more comprehensive B2B integration platform while enabling new customers to implement a J2EE standards-based solution that will co-exist with their existing B2B infrastructure.
06/12/2003 Case Summary: AttachMate Enables KansasJobLink Gold Club Protected
The Kansas Department of Human Resources (KDHR) administers the state’s unemployment insurance program. Customer demand led KDHR to launch a very successful telephone-based call center in June 1998 as an alternative to the traditional in-person filing required previously. In 2000, the state saw a significant jump in claims over the previous two years, and KDHR realized it would be unable to meet demand via call centers if claims continued to grow at a rapid pace. With growing customer expectations and an imperative to increase service levels while reducing taxpayer costs, KDHR turned to a Web-based solution. The agency created an online self-service claims filing application using Accenture’s eGovernment Accelerator and Attachmate’s myEXTRA! Smart Connector technology. The Web-based system has met with success, and KDHR was able to realize a return on its investment in eight months.

Quick Guide: What is Enterprise 2.0?

A lot of people are talking about Enterprise 2.0 as being the business application of Web 2.0 technology. However, there's still some debate on exactly what this technology entails, how it applies to today's business models, and which components bring true value. Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
