With a 15-year track record as a high-level application development tool company, Magic recently repositioned itself in the EAI space with its iBOLT Integration Suite, which is based on existing eDeveloper and connectivity technology. Magic realized that most of its customers were using its development environment for application development and integration, and began to add the necessary components to make its solution a stand-alone EAI environment.

06/13/2003 Product Quicktake: iWay XML Transformation Engine
One of the most pressing needs for businesses today is the ability to communicate seamlessly, internally and externally. Enterprise integration promises to solve communication problems, but full-blown EAI platforms cost too much and take too long to implement. Today's business climate requires IT organizations to solve integration problems quickly and inexpensively. iWay Software offers an alternative, incremental path to integration with "brokerless" integration. Using the iWay XML Transformation Engine, iWay Adapters, and iWay Business Services (Web services), iWay estimates it can achieve 80 percent of a company's integration needs at a project-level cost rather than that of a capital expenditure--and in days or weeks instead of months.
06/13/2003 Product Quicktake: Sybase Integration Orchestrator

06/13/2003 Product Quicktake: FileNet P8
FileNet P8 allows corporate data to be activated to automate complex business processes and the exchange of data among them, making it very different from typical content management applications. Traditionally, content has been a passive element in content management systems, simply stored or accessed by users. FileNet P8's object-driven model and event-driven architecture make it possible for changes in content to trigger changes in other applications. Conversely, changes made in an enterprise system could trigger changes to content or launch a specific business process automatically.
06/13/2003 Product Quicktake: Sterling Commerce Gentran Integration Suite
Gentran Integration Suite from Sterling Commerce offers a B2B integration solution that is modular and flexible, enabling business leaders to license the product for a specific project while allowing IT to use Gentran Integration Suite as a long-term enterprise integration and B2B infrastructure. Gentran Integration Suite can solve current hot-button B2B issues, such as AS2 compliance for retail suppliers or XML translation, while providing a platform for internal and external enterprise application integration (EAI) transactions. Using one system to handle EAI and B2B transactions enables companies to lower their total cost of ownership, and the module-based purchase plan offers an affordable, tactical solution. The latest release provides a path to a more comprehensive B2B integration platform while enabling new customers to implement a J2EE standards-based solution that will co-exist with their existing B2B infrastructure.
06/12/2003 Case Summary: AttachMate Enables KansasJobLink Gold Club Protected
The Kansas Department of Human Resources (KDHR) administers the state’s unemployment insurance program. Customer demand led KDHR to launch a very successful telephone-based call center in June 1998 as an alternative to the traditional in-person filing required previously. In 2000, the state saw a significant jump in claims over the previous two years, and KDHR realized it would be unable to meet demand via call centers if claims continued to grow at a rapid pace. With growing customer expectations and an imperative to increase service levels while reducing taxpayer costs, KDHR turned to a Web-based solution. The agency created an online self-service claims filing application using Accenture’s eGovernment Accelerator and Attachmate’s myEXTRA! Smart Connector technology. The Web-based system has met with success, and KDHR was able to realize a return on its investment in eight months.

Quick Guide: What is Enterprise 2.0?

A lot of people are talking about Enterprise 2.0 as being the business application of Web 2.0 technology. However, there's still some debate on exactly what this technology entails, how it applies to today's business models, and which components bring true value. Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
