ASG Software Releases MetaCMDB

07/29/2008

ASG's MetaCMDB is a breakthrough in configuration management database technology and is differentiated from existing competition by its extensible and scalable data model that focuses on federation.

ebizQ received the following:

ASG's solution leverages the industry's top metadata repository, ASG-Rochade, as the basis of a powerful Configuration Management Database (CMDB). ASG's unique strategy and application of a metadata repository as the core of its CMDB product has been applauded in recent analyst research.

ASG's most recent version of the MetaCMDB, version 3.2.0, represents a significant step towards ASG’s vision of the CMDB-enabled environment. Combined with technology recently announced as a result of a partnership with Tideway, ASG’s MetaCMDB combines a Federated Adapter Engine (FAE) with tighter integration with ASG’s Automation Center. This new technology combines critical service discovery tools with a powerful adapter engine and a core IT service management toolset, respectively. The resulting technology has a positive result on both the bottom line and IT management.

"With proper process and organizational planning, CMDBs can reduce mean time to repair or overall downtime by as much as 70 percent," says ASG's Chief Technology Officer, John Connor. "In turn, improved IT performance paves the way to service excellence: better service resolution time, business alignment, and, ultimately, customer satisfaction by supporting overall Business Service Management."

ASG's current version of the MetaCMDB is unsurpassed in the market in its ability to scale. Competitive products are not designed to work across large organizations, and their scale is generally limited to 10,000 to 20,000 configuration items (CIs). Given its unique data model, and use of a metadata repository, ASG's MetaCMDB scale is virtually limitless. Early customer implementations have already exceeded 200,000 CIs.

According to a report by Glenn O'Donnell, senior analyst at Forrester Research, Inc., "the configuration management database (CMDB) is a major topic for IT operations professionals, as maturing IT organizations now comprehend its pivotal role in operational process initiatives such as ITIL®." And as this technology type and vendor landscape continues to mature, O'Donnell writes, "there will be no competitive differentiation in the data held or exchanged, only in how the vendor assembles and leverages such data. Expect the big four…to move more slowly than smaller, nimble players... such as ASG. "("A Federated CMDB Remains Distant, But Start Now," Forrester Research, Inc., June 2008).

Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
