OpenLogic Adds New Features to Open Source Governance Platform
03/06/2008
OpenLogic, Inc., a provider of enterprise open source software solutions, announced the availability of a new release to OpenLogic Exchange (OLEX) Enterprise Edition, a SaaS solution for comprehensive sourcing and governance of open source in the enterprise.
Launched in November 2007, OLEX Enterprise Edition provides the industry's most comprehensive SaaS platform for managing and governing all open source software in an enterprise.
The new release of OLEX Enterprise Edition expands the governance capabilities with the addition of new policy capabilities.
List-Based Policy Management
"White lists," "black lists" and "grey lists" enable enterprises to define lists of open source packages or licenses that are pre-approved, disallowed or require special approval for each use. These lists streamline the process needed to implement an open source policy.
Cascading Policies for Bundled Packages
One of the most complex aspects of open source policies is assessing the impact of bundled packages. Most open source packages bundle several other open source packages, which often fall under different open source licenses. OLEX EE now makes it easy for companies to ensure that open source policies are applied to all of the "bundled" open source packages in addition to the primary open source package.
Integrated Policy Enforcement
Enforcement of open source policies is seamlessly integrated with the OpenLogic Certified Library, preventing downloads from OLEX Enterprise Edition of open source packages that are not within the enterprise's open source policy.
"Enterprises want to have comprehensive governance controls for their open source software that equals their existing governance controls for proprietary software," said Steve Grandchamp, CEO of OpenLogic. "OLEX Enterprise Edition provides an easy-to-deploy software-as-a-service solution that gives enterprises the legal and procurement controls that they need, while streamlining the sourcing process for developers and technical staff."
With the addition of these new capabilities, OpenLogic provides a complete governance solution that allows enterprises to inventory their open source usage; implement open source policies; manage approval of open source; track and audit open source usage and ensure compliance with open source licenses.
