Mulesource's Newest Release to be Licensed Under Open Source Initiative
08/14/2007
MuleSource, the provider of open source infrastructure and integration software, today announced the upcoming release of Mule 1.4.2, slated for early September, will be licensed under the OSI’s (Open Source Initiative) newly approved CPAL License.
ebizQ received the following:
The CPAL, approved by the OSI in July 2007, was written to accommodate the 40+ versions of MPL-based (Mozilla Public License) licenses in use by various software developers. Some critics have claimed that because these derivative licenses do not undergo the OSI approval process, they are not by definition true “open source.”
Prior to its adoption of the CPAL, MuleSource released its software under the MuleSource Public License (version 1.1.4), an MPL-based license. While not OSI approved, that license was virtually identical to the new CPAL license. MuleSource customers and developers should not see any changes in how they work with Mule.
"We’re naturally quite pleased that MuleSource has decided to select an OSI-approved license going forward,” said Michael Tiemann, president of the OSI board of directors. “Open source licenses have an excellent track record of being good for developers, good for users, and good for business. By choosing a license that is approved by the OSI, MuleSource reinforces both its commitment to innovation and its commitment to building a larger and richer open source community.”
