JBoss.org, the open source middleware community sponsored by Red Hat, today introduced Exadel Eclipse plug-ins into open source under the newly created JBoss Tools project.
The plug-ins, along with Ajax4jsf and RichFaces, were contributed to Red Hat in March by Exadel. This is the first important step toward delivering Red Hat Developer Studio, an entirely open source integrated development environment (IDE), later this summer.
In addition to the new Exadel plug-ins, the JBoss Tools project encompasses the former JBoss IDE project, s, Hibernate Tools, JBoss jBPM Tools, Drools IDE, JBoss Application Server Tools, and new JBoss Seam Tools, among others. JBoss Tools will provide nightly builds and an Eclipse update manager for easy access to the latest versions of all plug-ins.
Starting today, developers can download all the plug-ins they need from JBoss Tools to compile a powerful IDE with rich tooling for Java EE and Ajax development. Eventually, developers can subscribe to Red Hat Developer Studio, which integrates JBoss Tools into a tested and supported IDE for development on all Red Hat runtimes, including JBoss Enterprise Middleware and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
"With Exadel, we're bringing the first high-caliber set of Eclipse-based tooling completely available as open source,” said Max Andersen, project lead for Red Hat Developer Studio, Red Hat. “Exadel's technologies will be further extended with other JBoss.org projects such as JBoss Seam and JBoss jBPM to bring even more functionality and simplicity to application development.”
Key features of the Exadel plug-ins include:
Two-way visual (WYSIWYG) and source editing of JavaServer Faces (JSF) and Facelets pages;
Support for JBoss Ajax4jsf, JBoss RichFaces, and JBoss Seam components;
Drag and drop capabilities between project navigator, component palette, and Visual Page Editor windows;
Extended code assist for JSF and Seam projects; and
Support for easily adding Ajax capabilities to projects using JBoss RichFaces and Ajas4JSF using a palette and code assist.
Exadel plug-ins are licensed under the Eclipse Public License (EPL). For downloads and additional information, visit http://jboss.org/tools/.
