It's 2.0 for TIBCO BusinessEvents™ CEP Tool

04/23/2007

TIBCO Software Inc. today announced the launch of TIBCO BusinessEvents™ version 2.0, a new release of its award-winning complex event processing (CEP) software. TIBCO BusinessEvents version 2.0 features expanded rules functionality along with enhancements designed to allow customers to more quickly and easily deploy event processing applications.

ebizQ received the following:

TIBCO BusinessEvents enables organizations to identify meaningful patterns among the countless events that occur across their businesses. Using a unique model-driven approach to collect, filter and correlate massive volumes of data about discrete events, the software applies predefined rules to identify situations that require a response. Using TIBCO BusinessEvents, customers are able to improve their understanding of existing operations, identify and prioritize new situations and remediate threats.

“The emphasis for large organizations over the last five years has been a transition to becoming a more ‘agile’ enterprise capable of quickly responding to change and challenges within the marketplace,” said Philip Howard, research director — Data, Bloor Research. “Now that this has largely been accomplished, the logical next step is to move from being reactive to proactive by predicting those changes in advance. To enable this kind of predictive enterprise, companies will need to implement event-processing technology like TIBCO BusinessEvents.”

In version 2.0, TIBCO BusinessEvents contains an implementation of a new application programming interface (API) that allows users to easily embed TIBCO BusinessEvents into other applications. TIBCO has also added a new “hot” deployment capability in version 2.0 that permits new rules to be written and deployed while the application is running. This feature also enables TIBCO BusinessEvents distributed on-line deployments. Together, these new features allow real–time event processing functionality to be added to any application within the organization.

Another key to successful CEP is defining and applying rules that dictate the flow of information and responses as events play out. At the core of TIBCO BusinessEvents is a business rules engine that receives, correlates events and applies rules as needed. These rules play an important part in the development of business models as well as in the correlation between business events.

New rules functionality in TIBCO BusinessEvents version 2.0 designed to help business rule authors better understand rule dependencies and impact analysis include:

  • Rule Analyzer — Collects statistics on the performance of each rule, evaluating and ranking each one based on efficiency. It also allows for the visualization of an entire project as a graph, showing how one rule or object relates to another.

  • Rule Debugger — Analyzes the effects of various changes and detects circular rule cycles, rules with no actions, rules with the same condition and different actions, along with multitude of other potential anomalies. This drastically shortens the debugging phase for creating rule-based, event-driven applications. It also allows for simulation to ensure proper execution of pre-defined rules.

“A benefit to CEP is the ability to rapidly respond to potential problems or take advantage of emerging opportunities,” said Jeff Kristick, senior director, Product Marketing, TIBCO. “With the latest release of TIBCO BusinessEvents, we are delivering on our promise to help customers evolve into predictive businesses.”

Quick Guide: What is Enterprise 2.0?

A lot of people are talking about Enterprise 2.0 as being the business application of Web 2.0 technology. Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
