FileNet Rolls Out IBM FileNet P8 4.0

02/15/2007

FileNet, an IBM (NYSE: IBM) company, unveiled software designed to enable customers to use any type of digital content as a competitive and strategic business asset.

ebizQ received the following details:

The new IBM FileNet P8 4.0 enables organizations to capture, manage access and consolidate all forms of content, improving their ability to automate records management, meet compliance requirements and reduce operational risk. IBM FileNet P8 4.0 offers more than 75 enhancements and new capabilities developed to help companies use information to make business-critical, cost-effective decisions that save time, increase productivity and improve customer service.

FileNet P8 4.0 is the first major product release since IBM acquired FileNet in October 2006 and furthers IBM's efforts to help clients improve their competitiveness in the global marketplace through enterprise wide access to important business content. FileNet P8 4.0 complements the company's strategy through its broad support for leading operating systems, databases, desktop and portal environments, which customers of all sizes rely upon to control, access and manage content across their enterprise.

One such customer is Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc., a subsidiary of Consolidated Edison, Inc., one of the nation's largest investor-owned energy companies, with approximately $12 billion in annual revenues and $27 billion in assets.

"The FileNet solution enabled us to provide immediate proof of compliance when required, saving the company in excess of $1.5 to $2 million in the first year," said Franklin Alvarez, manager of computer applications - Construction Services, ConEdison. "FileNet's imaging, business process management, content management, and other products really provide a full service system that we can leverage against other products."

To help potential FileNet P8 4.0 customers reap the benefits of the new software, IBM Global Business Services (GBS) today announced an expanded content management services practice. More than 1000 IBM GBS professionals will provide a range of content management consulting services to FileNet P8 4.0 customers, ranging from initial strategy and planning through the build and management of enterprise-wide solutions.

"Companies of all sizes are striving to effectively manage and deliver important enterprise content to the right people, business applications and processes," said Lee Roberts, general manager, Content Management, for IBM. "The new features and consulting services available with FileNet P8 4.0 address our customers' needs for improved business performance and enhanced decision making, as well as their requirements for operational flexibility, accelerated application deployment and lower total cost of ownership."

Accelerating Content Deployment and Business Process Automation

FileNet P8 4.0 features a scalable, high-performance, unified metadata and catalog model for content, process management and compliance. The new software also features a, highly scalable J2EE content engine that offers a rich compound document model for managing complex documents, streamlining the authoring, translation, review and publishing processes.

The FileNet P8 4.0 platform is designed to enable businesses to track, monitor, measure and optimize processes in real-time to quickly identify operational bottlenecks and fine-tune processes for optimal results. In addition, new process design capabilities empower business users and reduce the need for IT involvement.

FileNet P8 4.0 also provides new and improved capabilities in for its Business Process Framework, which is designed to substantially reduce application development cost and time to market, enabling customers and partners to accelerate development and deployment of content & process-centric applications. The new capabilities support rapid development of rich configurable user interfaces, enabling users to quickly and easily create a customized look and feel.

Additionally, FileNet P8 4.0 now supports Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN), a standardized graphical notation to document and describe business processes. By using BPMN, organizations can better communicate process design across organizational boundaries and better meet regulatory compliance requirement.

The platform offers multilingual global process support that recognizes end user settings to deliver information in the recipient's native language. This is beneficial for organizations leveraging outsourcing or expanding into new geographic markets, and critical for organizations that must meet legal mandates for bi-lingual language support.

FileNet P8 supports FileNet's suite of Compliance offerings which includes IBM FileNet Records Manager, IBM FileNet Email Manager and IBM FileNet Records Crawler. For example, Records Crawler allows critical documents residing outside FileNet P8 to initiate and play a significant role in business processes, providing organizations with the ability to effectively manage large volumes of files in place on network file share locations and improving adherence to records management and compliance requirements.

The new software also provides Content Federation Services for third-party repositories, enabling content across an enterprise to be searched, cataloged, classified, secured, updated and deleted. FileNet P8 also now features support for federated annotations -- items such as electronic "sticky notes," rubber stamps, and comments.

Continuing to offer customers a growing set of solutions that help them manage their mission-critical content and business processes, FileNet's P8-based ValueNet partner solutions portfolio has expanded to include more than 150 ECM applications worldwide -- from 75 business partners and across 12 industries. These ValueNet partner solutions help customers manage content, ensure compliance, and streamline business processes in a wide range of vertical markets and applications.
