Unisys and JBoss Team on Open Source Middleware
05/05/2006
Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced that it has deepened its global relationship with JBoss, Inc., the professional open source company, as a JBoss Authorized Service Provider (JASP) and JBoss Authorized Training Partner (JATP) for all of the JBoss Enterprise Middleware Suite (JEMS) on a global level.
The following details were released:
The expansion represents another step in Unisys commitment to deliver an integrated open source middleware stack, complemented by Unisys services, which facilitates open, standards-based computing environments.
Under the expanded agreement, Unisys can now deliver a broad range of support services, consulting services and public training for clients developing multi-channel, multi-portal applications based on JEMS. The expanded agreement covers all of JEMS, including leading products such as JBoss Application Server, Hibernate, Apache Tomcat, JBoss Rules, JBoss Transactions and JBoss Portal.
Unisys sees JEMS as a critical building block in the development of open Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) strategies. SOA is a rapidly growing enterprise IT strategy that composes the discrete functions contained in mainframe applications, databases and enterprise software applications into interoperable, standards-based services that can be integrated and assembled quickly to meet changing business requirements. Unisys has been systematically developing the methodology for architecting, governing and implementing this open SOA under its 3D Visible Enterprise (3D-VE) approach for several years.
Unisys and JBoss will also expand their collaboration on education, marketing and sales opportunities. The expanded agreement also will increase Unisys presence on JBoss’ OEM/ISV Customer Advisory Board, which helps JBoss understand and act on the priorities of application architects, developers and systems integrators, and the enterprise end-users they represent.
“Drawing on its expertise in enterprise solutions and services, Unisys is taking a leadership position in creating focused open source solutions that deliver business value,” said Tom Cooper, vice president of worldwide channels, JBoss, Inc. “By teaming more broadly and intensively with Unisys, JBoss can capitalize on Unisys decades-long experience and global services delivery capabilities to extend the benefits of our open source technology to new cadres of users around the world.”
Unisys has made an intensive commitment to providing a comprehensive, secure, integrated open source software stack comprising Linux operating environments, middleware such as JEMS, and database management systems. Additionally, Unisys has tested and tuned the JBoss Application Server for Unisys platforms, completing both performance and scalability testing in conjunction with JBoss.
Unisys has also built a global team of JBoss certified consultants who can migrate, implement and optimize JEMS throughout an enterprise, and has established JBoss Centers of Excellence around the globe that enable customers to benchmark and test business-critical applications in a lab environment before moving them into production.
“Expanding support for JEMS as part of the Unisys open source initiative helps us further enable clients to capitalize on open source software to realize the key benefits of secure business operations – lower cost of solution deployment and ownership, greater agility in IT management with minimized risks, improved operational efficiency and competitive advantage in a dynamic marketplace,” said Anthony Gold, vice president and general manager, Open Source Business, Unisys.
