Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW), provider of Java(TM) technology, today announced a new suite of infrastructure software within the Sun Java(TM) Enterprise System to help enterprises address the most challenging business integration and Web 2.0 development projects.
The new Sun Java Composite Application Platform Suite (Java CAPS) delivers a range of business solutions to streamline IT services across an organization, leveraging existing legacy assets without the need for extensive coding.
Following its August 2005 acquisition of SeeBeyond, Sun has combined SeeBeyond's business integration software with the Sun Java Enterprise System to create a highly secure and scalable Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) platform. Sun now gives customers the complete toolset and run-time environment to transform and automate core business processes, such as purchasing, quote to order, inventory re-stocking, pricing approvals, travel authorization and numerous others. Sun is also introducing new professional services offerings to help further drive greater IT cost-savings and productivity and realize the full potential of SOA.
“With the introduction of Java CAPS, we are delivering on Sun's promise of the industry's most integrated, secure and powerful platform and tools for solving our customers' crucial business integration problems,” said John Loiacono, executive vice president of Software for Sun Microsystems. “With almost no coding whatsoever, organizations can now develop and deploy SOA and Web 2.0 services that leverage existing legacy assets more quickly and at lower total cost than ever before. In short, Sun is giving customers the market agility and ability to align IT with business goals that other vendors simply cannot match.”
The Sun Java CAPS is comprised of four suites, including the new Sun Java B2B Suite and Sun Java ESB Suite as well as the existing Sun Java Application Platform Suite and Sun Java Web Infrastructure Suite. Each suite is available individually for a subscription price of $50 per employee per year. When purchased together, Java CAPS is discounted to $100 for all four suites, a 50 percent savings over the cost if purchased separately. This complete solution will deliver a proven SOA foundation consisting of industry leading services which are designed, developed, managed and monitored through a common toolset and may be deployed into a common runtime environment or exposed as individual Web services.
The four Java CAPS suites include:
Sun Java B2B Suite: A subset of the Java CAPS targeting customers that require the ability to efficiently manage the diverse business-to-business requirements across their supply chains, distribution networks and clearinghouses.
Sun Java ESB Suite: A subset of the Java CAPS targeting customers with the requirement to simplify complex and costly messaging infrastructures, the Java ESB Suite provides an advanced distributed enterprise service bus through open standards support for Web services, XML, transformation and intelligent routing.
Sun Java Application Platform Suite: A subset of the Java CAPS, The Sun Java Application Platform Suite addresses the challenges of manageability, performance, security, and availability of business critical applications and processes. It enables process-driven portals delivering role-based composite applications, providing authorized information through a single user experience.
Sun Java Web Infrastructure Suite: A subset of the Java CAPS, the Web Infrastructure Suite improves web security, strengthens online customer and partner relationships, and reduces Web operations costs. This suite is comprised of market leading Web and identity infrastructure products.
With the addition of Java CAPS, Sun once again strengthens the Java Enterprise System. Sun now provides customers with a single and complete platform that includes the operating system, infrastructure software, system management and developer tools all within the Solaris(TM) Enterprise System, which is available at no cost for unlimited use to developers and users.
The entire Sun Java Enterprise System is available until June 30 for a promotional price of $150 per employee per year. After July 1, the price will be $200 per subscription.
