Software AG Introduces SOA Gateway for Adabas 2006
02/07/2006
Software AG, Inc. today announced the availability of a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) gateway as part of its new Adabas 2006 product line. Adabas SOA Gateway lets developers access Adabas 2006 data using their familiar environment – including Java/Eclipse, .NET and AJAX – without any previous knowledge of Adabas or the mainframe.
Software AG provided the following details to ebizQ:
Using Adabas SOA Gateway, developers can reduce the time and cost associated with bringing valuable Adabas assets into an SOA. Adabas SOA Gateway installs on the same platform that is running Adabas. It requires no client-side footprint, nor does it require any coding by the client-side developer. Instead, the Adabas administrator defines the data to be exposed directly from Adabas to the development platform. This capability eliminates the need to build a proprietary connectivity “bridge” from Adabas to Java or .NET.
According to Dale Vecchio, Research Vice President, Gartner Inc., “Best -in-class organizations will treat mainframe applications as a strong source of business services and will evolve them to better granularity in support of today’s business needs.”
Adabas SOA Gateway supports the Eclipse open source development environment, allowing the Adabas administrator and the client-side developer to work in the same environment. For example, Service Data Objects (SDOs) defined in the Adabas SOA Gateway can be tested, versioned and maintained in an open source Concurrent Version System (CVS) repository. In addition, Adabas SOA Gateway is able to expose Adabas data or logic as a Web service – easily consumable by AJAX or BPM tools.
“The ability to readily access data and logic from existing mission-critical systems is imperative when implementing a Service Oriented Architecture,” said Joe Gentry, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Transaction Systems for Software AG. “Adabas SOA Gateway enables developers using the latest tools and frameworks – such as Eclipse or AJAX – to easily and quickly tap into the value of Adabas for their new business applications and SOA projects.”
