Progress Software Releases ObjectStore Enterprise, v6.3

Progress Real Time Division, an operating unit of Progress Software Corporation (Nasdaq: PRGS), today released Progress® ObjectStore® Enterprise Version 6.3, the latest version of the industry’s most popular object database, featuring dramatic performance improvements across all environments and support for 64-bit Linux.

The ObjectStore Version 6.3 release, which includes ObjectStore PSE Pro (a small footprint, embeddable DBMS), is a proven technology for developing solid, consistent, and high-performance applications. It is the ideal database for both C++ and JavaTM applications that demand reliable, transactional object persistence. Among the enhancements to ObjectStore are:

  • For Java environments, performance improvements including a two to three times performance boost for object storing and fetching;

  • For C++ environments, 64-bit Linux support, up to 60 times faster utilities, enhanced API, and improved database management capabilities;

  • For all environments, dramatically improved database utilities for much faster performance and new platform support for 64 bit Linux and VC 7.1 compiler.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc, which owns the Sheraton, Le Meridien, Westin, W Hotels, Four Points by Sheraton, St. Regis and Luxury Collection chains, is replacing its mainframe reservations system with a service-oriented architecture based on Linux servers, is moving to the new release.

ObjectStore’s unique Cache-Forward™ Architecture (CFA) and virtual memory mapping retrieves data from Starwoods Central Reservation System (CRS) system and enables real-time access as online reservations are processed.

“ObjectStore’s Cache-Forward Architecture and virtual memory mapping are the key technologies that enable the Starwood online reservations system to accurately service its worldwide customer base,” said Paul Antosh, director, ObjectStore Product Management, Progress Real Time Division. “ObjectStore is the premier object database for any application where constant queries demanding real-time response are the norm.”

Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
