Defense Department Selects WebLayers' Governance Solution

04/15/2005

WebLayers, Inc., a provider of policy-driven governance solutions for XML, Web Services and Service Oriented Architecture, today announced that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has selected WebLayers Center™ to provide governance and compliance for the Net-Centric Enterprise Services (NCES) initiative. WebLayers’ advanced governance technologies will be the cornerstone in establishing a strong governance program to assist DISA in ensuring that all of the Net-Centric program initiatives adhere to the policies that will be established by DISA and many other agencies for the DoD development community.

WebLayers said the solution will enable DISA to dramatically cut integration costs and project timelines, ensure that all integration efforts are aligned around DISA’s operational requirements, and support the DoD’s mission of net-centric operations. This will also enable DISA for the first time to automate and distribute policies to other agencies for consideration and implementation in order to increase inter-agency interoperability and data access, the company said. WebLayers will also be used to specifically govern distributed UDDI registries to ensure that all XML artifacts published, consumed and operated are in full compliance with the DoD enterprise policies, WebLayers said.

Prior to selecting WebLayers, DISA reportedly conducted detailed market and technology reviews and evaluation. The review process and evaluation covered key areas including policy management, conformance automation, SOA integration, registry (UDDI) governance, enforcement and administrative reporting and control.

“The DoD’s selection of WebLayers is a testament to the capabilities and benefits of our unique technology as well as a significant business milestone,” said Motti Vaknin, President and Chief Executive Officer of WebLayers. “It is also a strong indication of the critical need for policy-driven Governance as a means of mitigating the complexities and risks associated with XML, Web Services and Service Oriented Architecture.”
