02/09/2005
PureEdge Solutions Inc., a provider of automation for form-based business processes, today announced that it has been awarded a multi-year contract to upgrade the U.S. Army’s existing inventory of over 100,000 forms, utilized by an estimated 1.5 million personnel around the world.
“In today’s geopolitical climate, it is increasingly important for government and military organizations to automate processes to expedite communications and information transfer among personnel around the world,” said Mark Upson, CEO of PureEdge Solutions. “The fact that PureEdge was chosen to upgrade the U.S. Army’s e-forms system builds on our previous success with the U.S. Air Force and further demonstrates that PureEdge e-forms are quickly becoming the chosen solution for secure forms-based business processes throughout the Department of Defense.”
PureEdge was selected for the contract by program management contractor, Enterprise Management Inc. (EIM) as part of the complete IBM solution that also includes IBM DB2 Content Manager, IBM Websphere, IBM Tivoli Monitoring and Silanis ApproveIt. Specific requirements of the program will include provision of PureEdge software, as well as inclusion of support and product maintenance by PureEdge.
The e-form modernization project is part of the U.S. Army’s Forms Content Management Program (FCMP) implemented to provide a standardized, Web-based, Army enterprise solution to automate processes, reduce processing costs and more efficiently manage the information contained in forms accessed by Army personnel around the world. PureEdge said the Army will use PureEdge e-forms to power thousands of functional e-processes in a variety of Army business applications including medical, transportation, logistics, finance, legal, personnel and communications.
A U.S. Army representative said, “The Forms Content Management Program revolutionizes the Army’s form-based activities. The advancement of the U.S. Army’s e-forms system will enhance the readiness of our warfighters and personnel around the world,” Furthermore, “The implementation of the e-forms solution will enable the U.S. Army to save millions of dollars and improve the efficiency with which we manage forms-based transactions among Army personnel.”
PureEdge said its XML based e-forms make it easy for users to digitally sign, manage, e-mail, distribute, and archive information contained in most forms. In addition to improving efficiencies and information flows, the upgrade of the U.S. Army’s current form-based processes will result in significant cost savings including estimates of potential cost avoidance reaching over $700 million over a 6 year period in administrative costs alone.
The company said that additional advantages of the e-forms solution will include:
- Significant time-savings (eg: some processes will be completed in 1/3 the time previously required)
- Reduced development and system maintenance costs
- Reduction of system redundancies & errors
- Improved security of information & provision of auditable records
- Interoperability with existing infrastructures & system extensibility
- Regulatory compliance (Government paperwork Elimination Act (GPEA))
