Meta Group Report Discusses Oracle Collaboration Suite
10/08/2004
A META Group survey of Fortune 2000 companies determined that regulatory compliance will drive increased enterprise content management adoption over the next three years. In a recently released report, "Document Management: Massive Opportunity for the Mass Market," META highlights the need for better
enterprise content management in the face of stricter government regulations and corporate mandates. Identifying the importance of integrated, scalable offerings, META cites Oracle as a company well positioned to deliver effective, affordable, easy-to-use content management solutions.
"Organizations are under pressure to manage their ever-growing quantities of information better, both for compliance and general knowledge management and productivity needs," said David Yockelson, senior vice president at META Group. "Given its introduction of enterprise-ready document management functionality in Collaboration Suite, Oracle is primed for the opportunity."
As companies today focus on meeting compliance requirements and managing legal risk, unstructured data -- such as electronic documents, e-mail, instant messages -- present serious challenges. In fact, unmanaged data is often scattered across hundreds or even thousands of minimally secure file and e-mail servers, necessitating companies to seek ways to offer secure, reliable and scalable ways to simplify business communication and consolidate information.
Oracle is one of several companies competing in this space.
