Compuware outlined plans to support BEA's newly-unveiled Project Beehive, and announced completion of the second phase of integration between Compuware OptimalJ, its model-driven, pattern-based enterprise development environment and BEA WebLogic Workshop.
Compuware supplied these details:
Compuware OptimalJ is the only tool that provides the flexibility to change the Java/J2EE artifacts that it generates. The pattern authoring capabilities within OptimalJ permit the implementation of BEA specific artifacts, like Java controls.
"Compuware is an extremely valuable BEA Alliance Partner and a strategic contributor to the BEA WebLogic Workshop programming framework, driving simplicity across the application life cycle," said Cornelius Willis, Vice President of Developer Marketing, BEA Systems, Inc. "The depth and breadth of Compuware's support for implementing SOAs on BEA's platform makes Java enterprise development more broadly accessible."
To truly adopt an SOA development approach, IT organizations must invest in and adhere to service-oriented principles in every phase of the application life cycle, and Compuware offers solutions that support this effort through development, testing, deployment and maintenance. Compuware's people, processes and products enable organizations to build reusable software assets, implement standards in the development process, and leverage existing investments by making legacy applications accessible in a standard way.
Compuware's development product portfolio enables organizations to architect and build scalable and adaptable standards-based web services and applications. The Compuware OptimalJ model-driven pattern- based development approach combined with BEA WebLogic Workshop's visual environment and runtime framework represents a comprehensive environment for developing and integrating J2EE applications.
As part of the second phase of the integration between Compuware OptimalJ and BEA WebLogic Workshop, Compuware has expanded the number of OptimalJ artifacts and controls accessible through Workshop -- giving architects and developers more flexibility to model applications, transform these models into working application components and then automatically convert these components into Java controls for Workshop. This tight integration between two complementary development approaches enables organizations to develop service- oriented applications as well as web services.
In order to ensure that SOA services are reliable and consistently available, Compuware QACenter solutions provide automated functional and load testing for BEA WebLogic applications. Using metrics from BEA WebLogic, QACenter automates the multiple, complex steps of thorough application testing. This means the testing phase of SOA deployment is underpinned by comprehensive, repeatable and predictable results. QACenter provides the automated testing capabilities organizations need to deploy web services and applications with confidence.
Compuware Vantage application service management predicts end-user performance for SOA-based transactions. Vantage's user experience monitoring, troubleshooting and performance management provide the critical insight needed to improve application service and maximize the value of application and infrastructure investments running on the BEA WebLogic platform. The changes IT organizations may make when adopting an SOA approach can often carry a high risk of impacting application service delivery if the planning and migration efforts do not adequately address performance. To reduce this risk, Compuware Vantage supports a complete cycle of best practices for service improvement projects and for infrastructure cost optimization projects.
“SOA is rich with promise. It will mean more agile IT organizations, more maintainable software assets and more efficient development cycles. But make no mistake, adopting an SOA approach means that IT organizations will significantly change the way they develop and deploy applications," said Bob Barker, Vice President of Strategic Planning for Compuware. "To this end, Compuware offers a comprehensive portfolio of solutions, services and best- practices that enable IT organizations to execute on their SOA strategy by helping them build reusable software assets, architect more maintainable applications and boost IT efficiency throughout all the phases of the application life cycle."

This conference will teach business leaders what to expect, and what to avoid, to make their SOA journey a success. SOA is a long journey, not a single project, and distributed architectures are inherently complex. Success requires new ways of working, creating more efficient cross organization processes, adopting new tools, and building new skills.Register

A lot of people are talking about Enterprise 2.0 as being the business application of Web 2.0 technology. However, there's still some debate on exactly what this technology entails, how it applies to today's business models, and which components bring true value. Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
