Voyence On Board With DCML

03/29/2004

Voyence, a provider of configuration management solutions for large, heterogeneous networks, has joined the Data Center Markup Language (DCML) Organization as a Contributing Member. The DCML Organization is an industry-wide collaborative effort, chartered with driving the DCML specification -- the first vendor-neutral standard to bring IT system interoperability and utility computing to data centers.

“DCML is the first standard that uses a common language for describing disparate hardware and software components within the data center,” Voyence explains. “Industry leaders are joining together to write this standard and make it available for IT organizations that want to ease interoperability among the software, hardware and component mix in their data centers. As a member of the DCML organization, Voyence will bring a wealth of network configuration management expertise and help drive standards to share information regarding the network throughout the systems, applications and network management domains.”

"Historically, there has been a lack of visibility of network device configurations as IT organizations have attempted to reduce costs while remaining competitive through rapidly deploying new network services," said David Schrodel, Chief Technology Officer of Voyence. "Voyence strongly supports initiatives such as DCML that will facilitate exchange of the valuable network information we capture in VoyenceControl! with other key solutions.”

“The lack of standards in today's data center environment has resulted in poor service quality, limited visibility into current data center operations, and higher costs for IT organizations,” Voyence observes. “By joining other industry leaders in the areas of data center automation, systems management, monitoring and metering, and outsourcing, Voyence will drive efforts to reduce the complexity and cost associated with managing the various systems within a data center today.

“Voyence joined DCML as a contributing member because it is critical to the company's strategy to share the wealth of network configuration management information collected in order to add value to other systems, applications and network management solutions that customers are utilizing in their data centers. Customers will benefit from Voyence's participation in DCML through higher network availability, increased security, enhanced ability to comply with corporate governance initiatives, and enablement of an end-to-end adaptive management infrastructure.

“DCML has garnered industry acclaim as the necessary precursor for managing the complexities of data center management and providing the foundation for realizing the promise of automation and utility computing - a rapidly emerging approach that will simplify and reduce the cost of enterprise computing.
