Sarvega Introduces "First XML Blade"; Inks Distrib Pact With Arrow

12/09/2003

Sarvega, Inc., a developer of high performance Web services infrastructure solutions, has unveiled what it says is “the industry’s first blade to handle the many complexities of XML Web Services infrastructure.”

“The Sarvega XRE 200, currently available, offers enterprises the economies and efficiencies associated with blades while still delivering the same industry leading performance in XML Web services acceleration, security and content-aware routing of Sarvega’s suite of hardware-accelerated XPE appliances,” Sarvega says.

“The markets for blades and XML-based Web services are growing rapidly. By integrating all of the benefits of an XML appliance into a blade, Sarvega is giving enterprises a significant new option for deploying Web services infrastructures,” said Ron Schmelzer, senior analyst at ZapThink, a leading analyst firm focused on XML, Web services and service orientation. “We expect that others will follow Sarvega’s lead in this direction.”

“Enterprises are increasingly deploying XML-based applications such as Web services. At the same time, they are looking for ways to better utilize their existing application infrastructures and meet strict budget guidelines. The need for the Sarvega XRE 200 blade is clearly there – and the response we are getting from customers is extremely positive,” said Chris Darby, president and CEO of Sarvega. He added that IDC estimates the market for blades will grow to nearly $3.7 billion by 2006.

As with Sarvega’s XPE appliances, Sarvega’s XRE 200 “is built on Sarvega’s patent-pending core technology, XML EventStream Operating System (XESOS), which addresses all facets of XML Web services Infrastructure processing from XSL transformation to XML/Web services security,” Sarvega notes. “It is the most flexible and comprehensive core technology platform in the market, employing an industry-first approach of transparently decoupling complex XML/Web services processing tasks from the application infrastructure.”

The XRE 200 blade will run on industry leading blade server architectures such as the IBM eServer BladeCenter.

“Sarvega recognized from the beginning the diverse requirements the market would have for Web services infrastructure products. We developed the XESOS technology so that it could be delivered to the market in multiple form factors. The first manifestation of XESOS was the hardware-based XPE appliance, which has been widely accepted, and now we are releasing the second manifestation, the XRE 200 blade,” said Sunil Gaitonde, co-founder and CTO of Sarvega.”

Using Sarvega’s XPE appliances, Sarvega’s customers “have saved millions of dollars while receiving order-of-magnitude performance improvements,” the vendor says. “Sarvega’s Web infrastructure solutions have been deployed in Global 1000 organizations such as CommWorks (formerly part of 3Com, now part of UTStarcom) and Fujitsu, as well as healthcare institutions such as Chicago’s Mt. Sinai Hospital Systems.”

Separately, Sarvega and Arrow OEM Computing Solutions, the division of Arrow Electronics that provides integration, manufacturing, and supply chain management services to industrial OEMs and other complex customers, announced they are entering into a global distribution and support agreement. This agreement represents the first XML Web services infrastructure agreement for Arrow OEM Computing Solutions.

Sarvega and Arrow are entering into this relationship to support the rapidly growing demand by Global 1000 enterprises for Sarvega’s industry-leading XML-based Web services infrastructure products such as Sarvega’s XPE appliances, which have been deployed in Global 1000 organizations such as CommWorks (formerly part of 3Com, now part of UTStarcom) and Fujitsu. “Global enterprises are increasingly looking for ways to integrate Web services into their application infrastructure. This relationship between Sarvega and Arrow will greatly benefit such enterprises and ease the way for the adoption of Web services in any enterprise, regardless of size or geographic locations,” said Ron Schmelzer, senior analyst at ZapThink, a leading analyst firm focused on XML, Web services and service orientation. “Sarvega is very pleased to be working with Arrow Electronics. Their worldwide presence coupled with their established track record with technology giants such as Hewlett Packard (HP), Nortel Networks, GE Medical and Siemens make them an excellent partner for Sarvega, ensuring that we provide our customers unmatched global distribution and support services as we expand our global activities,” said Chris Darby, president and CEO of Sarvega.

Sarvega will leverage Arrow’s global supply chain and customer support services, rigorous commitment to quality and guaranteed quick product turnaround to extend its geographic reach and enhance the customer experience. The agreement will help streamline Sarvega’s operations as the company grows with Arrow performing procurement, inventory management, order processing, and integration in its U.S.-based integration facility, which is ISO 9001:2000 certified. The global agreement will initially focus on North America and Europe, but can expand into additional markets.

“Sarvega and its customers will gain a true supply chain partner with this relationship as a result of Arrow’s expertise in logistics, customer support, and our Total Quality Management program,” said Steve Ramsland, vice president and general manager, Arrow OEM Computing Solutions. “Our global resources will also enable us to support Sarvega’s growth, which is a strategic goal for both of us.”

Quick Guide: What is Enterprise 2.0?

A lot of people are talking about Enterprise 2.0 as being the business application of Web 2.0 technology. However, there's still some debate on exactly what this technology entails, how it applies to today's business models, and which components bring true value. Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
