LogicLibrary Backs Reusable Asset Specification (RAS)
12/09/2003
LogicLibrary, a provider of software asset management tools and a co-contributor to the Reusable Asset Specification (RAS), announced it voted in favor of issuance of the specification. Issuance of the RAS was approved at a recent meeting of the Object Management Group, the consortium working to establish the Model Driven Architecture and standards for interoperable enterprise applications. A final adoption vote for the specification will take place after a 90-day comment period.
LogicLibrary joined industry leaders such as IBM in promoting the RAS. LogicLibrary says it “supports the RAS in its Logidex software asset management solution and features seamless integration with IBM WebSphere and Rational XDE, allowing developers to use Logidex capabilities alongside other WebSphere Studio tools. This level of integration allows for rapid collaboration among all WebSphere Studio tools, greatly streamlining application and Web services programming for WebSphere developers.”
"Asset-based development and software reuse are key ingredients in the development of service-oriented architectures (SOAs). Consequently, it's important to have a reuse specification that developers can adhere to," said Dr. Richard Soley, Chairman and CEO of the Object Management Group. "The RAS was created to help developers define and manage their reusable software assets. The recent approval to begin its next phase toward adoption by OMG's Architecture Board and Platform Technical Committee, underscores the importance being placed on reuse at this time, as more and more companies are building SOAs."
Service-oriented architectures are flexible, reliable and scalable infrastructures for conducting e-business globally and in real-time. SOAs use software development assets (SDAs), such as components and services, to accelerate time-to-market and provide significant competitive advantage. LogicLibrary makes it possible for companies to leverage existing SDAs and, through its integration with WebSphere Studio, create effective SOAs that respond quickly and efficiently to changes in the business environment.
"LogicLibrary has been a staunch supporter of the RAS from its inception," said Brent Carlson, vice president of technology at LogicLibrary. "The RAS effectively documents components and services to help build SOAs, save money and support key business initiatives. LogicLibrary's ability to easily import RAS archives and add them to the preloaded J2EE content in Logidex will dramatically improve our customers' ROI."
