PrismTech Shines New Light On OpenFusion CORBA Offering

09/09/2003

PrismTech, a maker of distributed software infrastructure, new released the latest version of its CORBA messaging product, OpenFusion Notification V4. “V4 builds on the performance, scalability, reliability and flexibility of V3 and offers up to 20 times the communications throughput combined with superior scalability,” the vendor says.

Since its first release in 1999, PrismTech's OpenFusion Notification has become the most widely deployed implementation of the Object Management Group's (OMG's) CORBA Notification Service specification, PrismTech notes. The product is being extensively used as the enterprise messaging solution of choice for large-scale mission critical applications in sectors including telecommunications, data communications, defense, aerospace, transportation and financial services, the vendor points out.

According to PrismTech, “OpenFusion Notification V4 offers a sophisticated event-driven messaging system supporting both guaranteed message delivery (store-and-forward) and content based routing. As many users have found, it forms the ideal basis on which to build an open, standards-based, and yet highly featured communications infrastructure.

“V4 has been entirely re-architected with a new modular design to provide unique levels of throughput in a scaleable CORBA enterprise messaging solution. The significant enhancements in performance are witnessed in real world benchmarking scenarios by beta test customers who have seen performance improvements of up to 20 times compared to the V3 product - which was already the fastest fully-compliant Notification Service available. Further improvements in the scalability of the product have also been achieved through the more efficient use of threads and new persistence mechanisms.”

OpenFusion Notification V4 is an ideal solution in any of the following Scenarios DESCRIBED BY PRISMTECH:

  • To exploit the flexibility of the message oriented paradigm in a reliable and scalable standards-compliant way,

  • To handle thousands of events per second between multiple suppliers and consumers,

  • To guarantee once and only once delivery of events,

  • To route messages based on their content,

  • To provide sophisticated control of your messaging software,

  • To deploy in diverse hardware and software environments.

"I am delighted with the performance and scalability of V4, which even exceeds our own internal goals for the release," said John Russell, OpenFusion Notification Product Manager, PrismTech. "This new version will give existing and future PrismTech customers a uniquely performant messaging system without compromising compliance to the OMG standard. Some competitive products have compromised compliance to achieve a faster throughput but, V4 achieves its goals whilst remaining CORBA compliant."

OpenFusion Notification V4 comes with platform coverage that includes: Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, Windows NT and 2000 and interoperates with all the major ORBs.
