Postal Workers Health Plan Sees SeeBeyond As HIPAA Compliance Sender

09/08/2003

SeeBeyond, the provider of business integration and composite application assembly solutions, says it’s been chosen by the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO (APWU) Health Plan. Key contributing factors in the selection of SeeBeyond by APWU Health Plan included the company's deep healthcare industry experience, comprehensive solution for HIPAA compliance, and partnership with leading HIPAA transaction certification and validation company, Claredi, SeeBeyond says.

Providing health insurance for postal employees, federal employees and retirees, APWU Health Plan is located in Silver Spring, Md., and services 130,000 members through a PPO option and a consumer driven option. To meet its near-term goal of HIPAA compliance, APWU sought a HIPAA solution that could provide critical out-of-the-box functionality, leverage APWU's investment in legacy systems, handle complex pricing transactions, and support business process management, SeeBeyond explains.

"The SeeBeyond HIPAA solution will assist us in meeting HIPAA compliance on an accelerated schedule without sacrificing our long term I/T objectives," said Carroll Midgett, chief operating manager for APWU. "This is a strategic technology investment, and we are optimistic about the prospects for the deployment of the platform in delivering rapid assistance in our compliance efforts with HIPAA mandates, as well as an increased level of service and responsiveness as we move closer to a real-time organization."

Complementing the SeeBeyond solution, Claredi Corporation, a certifier of HIPAA EDI transaction compliance, provides an enhanced solution for HIPAA compliance, SeeBeyond notes. “The combined SeeBeyond and Claredi solution reduces the complexity of HIPAA implementations through the delivery of a unified, end-to-end solution that combines SeeBeyond's proven integration technology with Claredi's distributed, in-stream HIPAA testing and certification,” SeeBeyond explains.

In addition, says SeeBeyond, “APWU views the SeeBeyond implementation as an asset not only in assisting in meeting the HIPAA compliance deadline, but in meeting APWU long term goals of employing the HIPAA solution set to achieve real-time efficiencies and Web services integration.”

"With more than a decade of experience in the healthcare sector, SeeBeyond provides a proven solution to assist in enabling both compliance with industry mandates as well as to establish the foundation for future technology enhancements," said Scott Harper, vice president of Healthcare for SeeBeyond. "We are proud to have been selected by APWU to help meet its HIPAA compliance mandates, and believe the power of the SeeBeyond platform will also yield positive operational results that will have a dramatic effect on the entire organization."
