Optika Hopes To Make Compliance Easier

07/28/2003

Optika Inc., an Enterprise Content Management (ECM) provider of imaging, workflow, collaboration and records management software, has unveiled its Acorde Compliance Suite, which the company says “enables organizations to manage the full scope of their compliance responsibilities, including mandates from far-reaching legislation such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, HIPAA and the Patriot Act.”

"The task of managing overall compliance has become a challenging endeavor for companies in every industry," said Mark K. Ruport, president, CEO and chairman of Optika. "As high-profile corporate failures in recent years have proven, meeting the new standards of financial responsibility is a top priority, and we believe our ECM product suite is ideal for helping companies avoid the heightened costs of compliance failure while at the same time improving the efficiency with which these mission-critical initiatives are accomplished."

According to Julie Rahal, research analyst for IDC, "Compliance has become an extremely important driver in information technology. Companies of all sizes are working hard to solve their compliance challenges while maintaining a focus on process efficiencies. Content Management vendors who offer compliance solutions to their customers are helping them solve a critical business need."

According to Accorde, its compliance suite leverages Microsoft .NET technology to enable organizations to manage their compliance and control activities at a variety of levels.

The suite consists of the following solution offerings, AS DESCRIBED BY ACORDE:

--Acorde Records Management Standard Edition - for identifying, classifying, tracking and managing physical information, such as paper records, from inception through the end of the document or record lifecycle.

--Acorde Records Management Enterprise Edition - for complete electronic, physical and email records retention and lifecycle management. This product is fully integrated with Acorde Context for complete imaging and content management and is compliant with DoD 5015.2 and FDA CFR 21, Part 11 regulations.

--Acorde Internal Control-- based on Acorde Process, Optika's 4th generation workflow solution, which enables the complete and closed-loop management of policies and procedures, including creating appropriate communication flows, feedback mechanisms, remediation, escalation processes, and audit trails. Acorde Internal Control can be used to help companies operationalize and automate the compliance and control requirements stipulated in the U.S. Sarbanes-Oxley Act for public company accounting reform and investor protection.

--Acorde ERP Application Link-- Optika's unique technology for extending, leveraging and integrating with critical business applications such as PeopleSoft, J.D. Edwards, Microsoft Business Solutions and Oracle. The Application Link allows Optika customers to create a complete compliance environment including all financial, human resource and supply chain data found in the ERP system.

Optika says it has more than 65 customers utilizing the records management offering, including J.R. Simplot Company, Weyerhaeuser Company, City of Kent, WA, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, Georgia-Pacific Corporation, and Bayer Pharmaceutical.
