Kognitio and Capgemini Join Forces in Cloud Computing Alliance

08/16/2010

Ground-breaking Capgemini Immediate initiative allows organizations to take advantage of a best of breed cloud computing solution, without breaking the bank on implementation and training

Kognitio, a leading global provider of business intelligence (BI) and data warehousing solutions, today announced that it is a supplier for Capgemini, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services.

ebizQ received the following:

Kognitio is providing its WX2 analytical database as part of the pioneering Capgemini Immediate solution, to help deliver agile business services in the cloud. Capgemini Immediate is designed to provide top-of-the-line IT services from an ecosystem of third-party suppliers via a “pay-as-you-go” model using cloud computing so that organizations can fundamentally transform their business and IT processes without the delays and expense of traditional, in-house IT projects. Services can be provided seamlessly within the overall solution, with Capgemini acting as services integrator and prime contractor.

Capgemini Immediate’s strength comes from bringing together a wide range of IT services and technologies that can be provided to customers as a coherent solution through the cloud. Kognitio’s WX2 analytical database allows Capgemini Immediate users to take advantage of Data Warehousing as a Service (DaaS). Customers can receive near-instantaneous answers to their queries, meaning that they can take full advantage of Business Intelligence capabilities.

For example, organizations can receive full insight into their customers’ actions, likes and dislikes, from when they first visit the organization to their latest transaction. Armed with this insight, organizations can tailor and target their offerings to ensure they are providing the best possible service and developing the most loyal customer base. By receiving this service over the cloud, organizations avoid the high up-front costs, implementation times and expertise requirements that an in-house BI project usually entails. The same principle holds true for the whole of Capgemini Immediate: customers receive the exact services they need, at the capacity they need, when they need it.

"We are honored to be selected as part of Capgemini Immediate. The initiative is another huge step towards highlighting the benefits of cloud computing,” said Roger Llewellyn, CEO of Kognitio. “The cloud makes it possible to receive IT services quicker, easier and more cost-effectively than it would ever be to try and implement such a service in-house. For example, Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing could cost an organization hundreds of thousands – if not millions – of pounds as an up-front expense if installed on-premise: when provided through the cloud, those up-front costs are eliminated and companies can use an eBusiness environment, paying only for the services that they need and use. And by securing services from a trusted, consistent provider, such as Capgemini, organizations can be sure that the data involved is protected as securely as it would be if it were in their own headquarters."

Calum Murray, Global Head of Cloud Strategy, Capgemini, said: “We are delighted to be working with Kognitio as part of our innovative ecosystem of providers. Capgemini Immediate is a significant milestone in cloud computing technology and provides us with the chance to demonstrate just what this new solution can offer customers in terms of cost-effectiveness, flexibility, scalability and speed. We look forward to working closely with Kognitio as we continue to develop this new approach, responding to the ever evolving business landscape."

Kognitio’s WX2 is used globally by companies across a wide range of established and emerging industries, such as telecommunications, biogenomics, consumer packaged goods, retail, media, marketing, financial services and utilities. It enables them to analyze and gain insights from multiple terabytes of information within seconds or minutes, instead of the hours, days or longer required by legacy database products.

Kognitio has architected its WX2 RDBMS to enable the industry’s widest range of installation options; the software can be licensed on a global capacity basis, or incorporated in a data warehouse appliance that is built on commodity-based hardware instead of costly proprietary hardware. WX2 is also at the heart of Kognitio’s pioneering Data Warehousing as a Service (DaaS) offering, which allows firms to rapidly implement and derive answers from data on an outsourced basis, at a fraction of the cost and time it would take for a company to buy and install the needed hardware and software.

Quick Guide: What is Enterprise 2.0?

A lot of people are talking about Enterprise 2.0 as being the business application of Web 2.0 technology. However, there's still some debate on exactly what this technology entails, how it applies to today's business models, and which components bring true value. Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
