SOA Software Announces Repository Manager to Simplify building Enterprise SOA Adds Advanced Asset Search, Validation and Integration Capabilities

04/21/2010

SOA Software, a leading SOA and Cloud Services Governance provider, today announced Repository Manager Version 6.2. Repository Manager enables enterprises to understand what services and software assets exist, where they’re located and how each fits into a company’s business and technical landscape.

ebizQ received the following:

By providing a context for understanding and assessing existing software assets, Repository Manager serves to automate the path to SOA and Cloud, enabling customers to rapidly develop, govern and deploy services within the SOA service lifecycle.

Repository Manager is SOA Software’s industry leading development governance platform that simplifies the creation, integration, management and promotion of enterprise assets and services throughout the complete development lifecycle. Its strong integration with leading application development environments, federation will all major run-time registries like IBM WSRR, HP SOA Systinet and UDDI registries, and its integration with SOA Software’s Policy Manager enable customers from a single point of control to rapidly deploy services and other software assets within the SOA enterprise lifecycle. Repository Manager is used by Fortune 500 customers to drive application agility and reduce cost and risk in their SOA deployment.

Repository Manager version 6.2 extends the federation framework with support for more development platforms, adds SOA impact analysis, adds an extensible validation framework, additional operational governance integration options, and greater flexibility in defining specialized searches for assets and services.

Key deliverables for Repository Manager 6.2 include:

  • Asset Relationship and SOA Impact analysis: Repository Manager 6.2 can dynamically generate and show relationships between assets such as Applications, Services, Schemas, Components and other SOA development assets. Maintaining application stability as an SOA matures is one of the greatest challenges to any SOA initiative, and SOA Software’s rich visualization capabilities aids architects and other key stakeholders in visualizing the impact of changing a particular service or a schema on related services and schemas.
  • Synchronous Asset Validation: Repository Manager 6.2 adds an extensible validation framework with sophisticated prebuilt validators. Customers can easily define conditional validation rules on any aspect of an asset (for example, enforcing use of a designated set of enterprise-specified schemas for governed services, requiring a user guide document if a service is specified as “enterprise certified”). These rules are enforced as the asset is edited, ensuring that only valid assets are submitted to governance and shared with the user community and thereby increasing the trust in each asset’s accuracy and completeness.
  • Asset Search Enhancements: Customers can add their own specialized search types to the default choices provided by Repository Manager. This XPath based capability shields end users from specifying complex search rules while presenting them with sophisticated search options aligned with customer needs and enterprise lexicon.
  • Enhanced Integration with Policy Manager: Support for acquiring virtual services generated via SOA Software’s Policy Manager and support for importing bundled WSDL/Schema packages has been added into this release, expanding each customer’s seamless integration options for unified SOA governance and ensuring good alignment with their SOA strategy.

“Repository Manager continues to make it easier than ever for developers, architects and business analysts to create and manage world-class business applications,” said Brent Carlson, senior vice president of technology at SOA Software. “Customers are leveraging Repository Manager as part of a unified governance automation solution to increase the business value they derive from their service-oriented architecture initiatives.”

Repository Manager Capabilities include:

  • Development Governance: Manage heterogeneous asset types from a single source. These assets can include services, components (.NET, J2EE, and others), legacy systems, and knowledge assets, such as patterns and best practices, used by development teams. Repository Manager provides seamless integration with Microsoft, SAP, IBM, and other development platforms.
  • Federation with Service Registries: Discover and publish services from and to service registries including HP SOA Systinet, IBM WSRR and any UDDI registry to ensure consistency of service definitions through the enterprise.
  • Asset Import Center Enhancements: Repository Manager Import Center supports discovery and synchronization from IBM WSRR and UDDI registries.
  • Integration with Leading Software Development Platforms: Reference and replicate assets and artifacts from common SCM solutions. Provide seamless governance processes across all enterprise software development platforms including Microsoft, SAP, IBM, Eclipse and others.
  • Configuration Designer Plug-In: This Eclipse plug-in enables users to graphically design governance processes for deployment to their Repository Manager installations.
  • Deploy and Manage Assets and Services Effectively: Deep integration with SOA Sofware’s Policy Manager to provide compliance policy validation, thereby ensuring the relevance of services and other software assets. Repository Manager processes can automatically provision service and schema definitions under development to Policy Manager, which in turn automatically applies the correct compliance policies for those definitions. Strong integration with development tools ensures efficient operation of the development process.
  • Discover Assets and Services Collaboratively: Comprehensive technical and business search capabilities to ensure that created applications meet business needs.

Quick Guide: What is Enterprise 2.0?

A lot of people are talking about Enterprise 2.0 as being the business application of Web 2.0 technology. However, there's still some debate on exactly what this technology entails, how it applies to today's business models, and which components bring true value. Some use the term Enterprise 2.0 exclusively to describe the use of social networking technologies in the enterprise, while others use it to describe a web economy platform, or the technological framework behind such a platform. Still others say that Enterprise 2.0 is all of these things. Learn More
