Springsource and Pentaho Partner for BI

10/08/2008

Two prominent open source leaders, SpringSource and Pentaho, today unveiled a strategic technology partnership to meet widespread demand for a new generation of business intelligence (BI) and reporting capabilities built upon Spring, the de facto standard in enterprise Java.

ebizQ received the following:

Specifically, the companies are enhancing the integration of Pentaho’s embeddable reporting and business intelligence capabilities with the SpringSource Application Platform, a collection of products designed to provide the optimal environment to build, run and manage enterprise Java applications that utilize Spring-based technologies.

The SpringSource Application Platform includes SpringSource Enterprise that delivers the software, services, and technical support necessary to ensure that organizations develop and run Spring-powered enterprise applications more productively, securely and with the greatest uptime. The Platform also comprises SpringSource dm Server, a completely modular, OSGi-based Java server to run enterprise Java applications and Spring-powered applications with a new degree of flexibility and reliability.

According to Gartner, adoption of open-source BI being used as an enterprise-wide standard platform will triple by 2012.1 To meet the widespread demand of open source BI applications, Pentaho and Spring will further integrate their respective product lines to equip developers, ISVs, and enterprises with a mature, scalable and proven embeddable open source Java reporting engine. The two organizations will also conduct joint marketing, sales and support activities. Pentaho, the established commercial open source alternative for business intelligence, is also a SpringSource Certified Solution Partner.

“The modular, easy-to-use Spring Portfolio has become the backbone for building and deploying a new generation of enterprise applications, including business intelligence and reporting,” said Mitch Ferguson, vice president of business development for SpringSource. “Our partnership with Pentaho delivers tight integration of SpringSource Enterprise with their powerful reporting capabilities, coupled with dm Server as a deployment option. The integration of our technologies and the ongoing partnership between our companies make this a very attractive offering for developers and enterprises alike.”

“Integrated reporting and business intelligence capabilities have become an expected and necessary component of almost any business application,” said Lars Nordwall, senior vice president of business development for Pentaho. “Our partnership with Springsource makes it even easier for developers to deliver robust, integrated, and supportable applications with the SpringSource Application Platform.”

SOA In Action

Nov 19, 2008

This conference will teach business leaders what to expect, and what to avoid, to make their SOA journey a success. SOA is a long journey, not a single project, and distributed architectures are inherently complex. Success requires new ways of working, creating more efficient cross organization processes, adopting new tools, and building new skills.Register
