'Who’s The Next Open Source Idol?' to Take Place at SF LinuxWorld Conference

GroundWork Open Source is sponsoring a competition amongst four open source mascots: “Tux” the Linux kernel penguin, “Beastie” the BSD daemon, Mozilla’s Firefox, and “The Gnu” GNU at the upcoming LinuxWorld Conference in San Francisco.

The purpose of the competition is to drum up excitement around famous, non-commercial open source icons and to determine which is the favorite in the minds of today’s most dedicated open source fans.
GroundWork will be videotaping LinuxWorld Conference and Expo interviews with attendees on the show floor and asking them to audition on behalf of their chosen open source mascot.
The competition will begin at 7:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, August 5.
The competition will end at 11:59 PM PDT on Thursday, August 7.
GroundWork is inviting all open source fans to vote at Booth #501 during the conference or online at: http://www.groundworkopensource.com/community/lwce08.html.
The “winner” of the competition will be announced Tuesday, August 12 at 7:00 AM EDT.
