Takeaway: According to a recent report by the AIIM, companies are viewing enterprise 2.0 applications as being potentially useful but not too straightforward in their functionality. In the survey, 44% of businesses found software such as wikis, blogs and social networks to be either imperative or of significant importance to business. Yet three fourths of companies that deemed the technologies important also claimed only a vague familiarity with the concepts of Web 2.0.
Analysts quoted in an InfoWorld article suspected that the responses reflected the ad-hoc nature of most businesses' Web 2.0 deployments. The survey revealed that 45% of companies that had implemented enterprise 2.0 technologies had done so ad-hoc, and only 26% had used a specific strategy.
