Many companies are becoming fully aware of the impact of and the opportunities offered by becoming more service centric and by leveraging a service oriented architecture. Your company is probably embarking on a reuse strategy or a process improvement strategy or both! While a few of these projects will be successful, most will not due to the lack of a solid governance strategy (one that's led by the Business!) and due to the lack of proper technologies to enforce those governance polices and processes.
L. Frank Kenney is a Research Director for Applications Strategy and Governance in Gartner Research, where he is responsible for research in the governance of SOA infrastructure initiatives, Web services, business-to-business integration software, strategies, methodologies and technologies including SOA, EDI, FTP and XML.
Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Kenney held a management position with a major media advertising firm, where he oversaw all process of data and secure file distribution as well as communication logistics to worldwide franchises. Additionally, he was responsible for portal creation and maintenance, allowing end users easy Internet-based access to custom advertising productions. Previous to that, he supervised data center help desk and systems support for Executive Business Group, Inc.
Miko Matsumura is Vice President and Deputy Chief Technology Officer at Software AG. He serves as chair of the SOA Adoption Blueprints Technical Committee at Oasis and is the organizer of the SOA Link Interoperability Initiative. Mr. Matsumura blogs at www.SOAMasterClass.com. Prior to his current role, he served as Vice President of marketing and technology standards at Infravio. Mr. Matsumura emerged as an industry thought leader at The Middleware Company, where he was a co-creator responsible for building the partner program for SOA Blueprints, the first complete vendor-neutral specification of an SOA application set, supported by BEA, Borland, HP, Microsoft, Oracle, Sun Microsystems, Veritas and others. He has worked extensively with software startup companies, raising more than $12 million in capital for Java startups. Mr. Matsumura holds an MBA from San Francisco State University and a Master's Degree in Neuroscience from Yale University.
