As we get close to a full decade of SOA work, we know that some companies have very robust, well-functioning service oriented networks, while others are still struggling with Just a Bunch of Web Services.
To provide some yeardsticks, Thomas Erl announced that the APQC has formed a new working group to help assess organizations' service-oriented maturity levels:
"The Service-Orientation Maturity Model (SOMM) will be developed throughout 2011, as part of an international collaborative effort, with numerous on-site working group sessions being planned in different countries. A number of these sessions will be carried out during the upcoming International SOA + Cloud Symposium in Brazil this April, and several of the working group members will be speaking at that event as well. We hope to be able to release a first draft of the SOMM by Fall 2011 for public review."
Thomas also is seeking input from enterprise IT managers in a survey that will help guide the efforts of the SOMM Advisory Council.
