Using Downtime to Boost SOA

The rough-and-tumble economy putting the kibosh on some of your SOA dreams?

Don't fret. Kleber Bacili, CTO and founder of Sensedia, says times like these may be the perfect times to get your SOA house in order.

He says the recent "SOA is Dead" debate has actually rejuvenated interest in service oriented architecture, and notes that if your budget has been tightened, this is a great time to revisit some of those foundering projects that never quite seem to get traction:

"Rather than suffer through these lean times with SOA projects that are underperforming, forward-thinking companies are recognizing the need to revamp these projects to achieve the critical returns they once promised. By implementing SOA governance initiatives with a well-planned and incremental approach, these companies are able to streamline wasteful and unruly SOA projects, eliminating duplicated development through governance practices."

Bacili observes that SOA projects with less-than-stellar performance may be suddenly vulnerable to the budget knife. But instead of cutting, companies should ramp up their SOA efforts to "reuse existing assets, improve time-to-market and effectively measure results."
