"Leadership is SOA rocket fuel."
That's the overriding theme of ebizQ's latest Webcast on SOA transformation, in which I was joined by Software AG's Miko Matsumura and Jignesh Shah, authors of SOA Adoption for Dummies.
I will be providing analysis and a transcript of the event in short order, but in the meantime, ITWorld Canada's Kathleen Lau did a great job of summarizing the highlights of our discussion.
In the spirit of the book, a lot of our analogies were drawn from the space program. Miko pointed out that a
big-picture perspective is a must for an SOA implementation, much like
NASA's goal of landing on the moon was not merely about the technology,
but the United States as a country. And, as happened with the space program, organizations need inspired leadership to move forward with SOA, just as President John Kennedy provided the impetus to get to the moon within a decades' time.
As you will see in Kathleen Lau's article, Miko, Jignish, and I were also in agreement that the current rough-and-tumble economy shouldn't cause organizations to back away from service orienting -- rather, there's never been a better time to start the transformative initiative. As Miko put it: "Downturn is actually the perfect time to invest because you are
separating yourself from your competition."
