Google has recently acquired Omnisio, a move that should give YouTube users the ability to annotate and comment on videos. David Berlind of InformationWeek calls it "sort of like Twitter or IRC meets Internet Video+Powerpoint with a dash of TiVo tossed in." Omnisio also makes a record of the comments in the video so that the next user will be able to see them.
My immediate thought upon reading this article was that this should enable Mystery Science Theater 3000 type commentary on a lot of Web video (presidential candidate speeches, anyone?), but I can see how this might have some level of business use. Berlind suggests that event producers might be able to draw the Internet community further into their content, but he also points out some concerns such as videos being so cluttered by comments that you can't actually see the video. Obviously further refinements would need to be made before this was widely available on YouTube.
