Microsoft announced initiatives today at its Worldwide Partner Conference to strengthen itself in the SaaS space. The company announced new business models for its online offerings. EChannelLine reports that the Microsoft will be providing incentives for partners to sell online services and will be offering a Quickstart service to help partners "get this initiative up and running in the channel."

eWeek further clarifies that the offerings will include a light version called the Deskless Worker Suite and a more sophisticated set of services for knowledge workers.

InformationWeek's Mary Hayes Weier points out that Microsoft is not likely to earn much revenue from some of the offerings, which will be set at $3 per user per month, but the initiative may prevent Microsoft from losing customers to Google Docs.
