Managing SOA Semantics Using Ontologies and Supporting W3C Standards..."Web 3.0?" Webinar
On Friday, March 2, 2007, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EST, I’ll be hosting yet another free SOA Webinar. The Title is:
Managing SOA Semantics Using Ontologies and Supporting W3C Standards..."Web 3.0?"
You can register for it here. Last time we had a few hundred sign up. These are free, no hype, no selling, just learning Webinars, so show up ready to learn and ask questions.
Here is the description:
When dealing with SOA, as you know by now, we are dealing with much complexity. The notion of ontologies and semantics helps the SOA architect prepare generalizations that make the problem domain more understandable. In contrast to abstraction, generalization ignores many of the details and ends up with general ideas. Therefore, when generalizing, we start with a collection of types and analyze commonalities to generalize them.
Clearly, semantic heterogeneity and divergence hinders the notion of generalization, and as commonalities of two entities are represented in semantically different ways, the differences are more difficult to see. Thus, ontological analysis clears the ground for generalization, making the properties of the entities much more clear. Indeed, ontological analysis for SOA encourages generalization.
In this session we take the mystery out of the use of Ontologies, providing the attendee with a step-by-step approach to the use of Ontologies and Supporting W3C standards.

Free SOA Intro Webinar...
Just a reminder, I'm doing a free "no selling/no hype) SOA Jumpstart Webinar on the 15th. You can register for the Webinar here. The description is below.
This is for those that listen to the podcast and would like a more comprehensive understanding of SOA. See you there.
Many may understand the notion of SOA, but very few have any idea how to get there. Truth-be-told, there is no hard and fast rule as to how one builds a SOA in their organization.
Clearly, SOA is a situational thing and your mileage may vary. However, some common patterns are emerging which may provide a step-by-step guide toward implementing a SOA, either in the fast track (revolutionary) or the slow track (evolutionary) — as long as you’re on the right track.
The purpose of this Webinar is to provide a step-by-step guide for those who design and build SOAs. This Webinar will walk them through all of the logical steps, including defining key artifacts and providing examples of those artifacts (e.g., design documents). In essence, this Webinar serves as a meta-methodology of sorts, taking the mystery out of moving an organization to a more service-oriented and real-time state.
