What Percentage of Companies With More than 250 Employees Have Automated Their Human Resources Processes?

Brian Reale: What percentage of companies with more than 250 employees have automated their human resources processes (on-boarding, off-boarding, leave of absence requests, etc.)?  What are the challenges in doing so?

  • I do not have any numbers, but I can hazard a guess that the number is likely going up steadily, if not rapidly.

    Companies with smaller workforce tend to have processes that are dependent on specific people - add to that fewer people participating in processes -- and many process challenges that big companies face are almost not significant enough to warrant investment in process management tools.

    But Open Source BPM and the proliferation of cloud versions of many mainstream commercial BPM tools has made it easier for smaller organizations to automate human centric processes with significantly lower investments. That means process excellence through BPMS is no longer a luxury.

    So with lowering of cost barriers, increasing need for competitiveness, adoption I think is bound to head up.

  • Take a look at the CedarCrestone HR Systems Survey for 2009-2010. http://www.cedarcrestone.com/research.php We survey organizations with at least 500 employees and more. Automation of the core HR record keeping process indicates over 90% have automated.
