Using decision management to simplify processes

My friends over on the Drools (open source rules) blog had a great post showing spaghetti BPEL today. While I don't think all such problems are because decisions are not being managed properly, clearly some are. Identifying, externalizing and then managing the decisions within a business process can make it both simpler and more agile - after all, decision agility is not the same as process agility. Because decision nodes within a process also allow for the application of analytics to make those decisions "smarter", decision management results in smarter, simpler and more agile business processes.
