The current issue of BPM Strategies magazine has a couple of great articles - one on Business Decision Management (BDM), BPM and SOA and one on Decision Services. You can see the current issue online if you are a subscriber here. If you don't already subscribe I would recommend it. The online community is great, the training is good and the magazine often has some good articles. Larry Goldberg and Barb von Halle do a nice job of mapping decision management to SOA and BPM and Mike Rosen has a nice introduction on Decision Services and business rules. I think both could talk more about analytics and data mining as a complement to business rules in this circumstance but I would recommend them anyway. If you are interested in these topics, and you should be, check out these posts:
- Decision Service definition
- Modeling Decisions
- Pragmatic Decision Services
- Decisioning in a loosely coupled process
- Diamonds, decisions and processes
Interesting articles on similar topics include Larry Goldberg on A SOA-based Business Rules Approach: Decision Services and my two articles for SOA magazine - SOA and business rules and Smart Enough for SOA: Incorporating Enterprise Decision Management into Service Design. If you want to buy the book Barb and Larry mention you can do so here.
