AMI Partners released some interesting figures recently on the growth of Software as a Service (SaaS) among small and midsize businesses (SMBs).
More than half of U.S. SMBs are considering SaaS solutions, according to AMI's latest global SMB Cloud Services Practice report. The New York-based research company also projects growth of up to $95 billion in global SMB cloud-related spending by 2014.
Worldwide, according to AMI, about 12 percent of small businesses (those with fewer than 100 employees) and 24 percent of midsize businesses (those with 100-plus employees) currently use SaaS.
But AMI says that SMBs seem to be "easing into the concept of local plus cloud-based computing rather than leapfrogging into a pure-play platform."
Among that global user base, AMI found that 78 percent of small businesses and 31 percent of midsize businesses are using a hybrid (SaaS plus on-premise) model rather than a pure-SaaS product.
Will that change over time?
