On February 4, TIBCO led the software industry in a new direction by being one of the first longtime software companies to announce an appliance.
It's a Messaging Appliance being true to TIBCO's roots and
"it employs a pure hardware approach, utilizing field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technologies."
The idea is to reduce 10-fold the number of servers required to handle a similar messaging flow with a software-only approach such as IBM WebSphere MQSeries or TIBCO's own Rendezvous. However the Messaging Appliance "preserves the investment TIBCO customers have made in their Rendezvous applications by providing drop-in compatibility with existing versions of Rendezvous client libraries."
I have asked Rourke McNamara of TIBCO to join us to discuss the business process management (BPM) aspects of the announcement. Rourke is TIBCO's Director of Product Marketing and through previous positions with TIBCO been involved in TIBCO BPM efforts.
