How Did the BPM Market Do in 2008?

ebizQ does not typically cover investor-relations announcements but I will publish the annual results of business process management (BPM)-related software suppliers over the next month or so (during the first calendar quarter of 2009). I don't want to cover investment issues on this blog (I do on my own web site at IT Investment Research) but I will publish them in order to review the health of the BPM software market in 2009 from two perspectives:

  • in and of itself

  • in context with the overall economic downturn

Note that there are typically two types of investment-relations announcements about annual results.

  • The major, usually publicly traded, software suppliers announce their actual financial results but BPM is such a small part of their overall total that they do not break it out separately, but simply make mention of trends in their BPM line(s).

  • Smaller, usually not publicly traded, software suppliers give more details but do not provide actual financial results.

I am keeping track of this information to provide a 2008 market-share and 2009-2011 forecast after March 1, 2009. I will provide a synopsis of that report here on ebizQ shortly thereafter, just as I did in May 2008 (see this article--Gold Club membership required but membership is free).

For any one that cares, estimates of BPM financial results, primarily market share information, for all BPM market participants in 2009 will be available from IT Investment Research (www.itinvestmentresearch.com) after March 1, 2009.
