I recently caught up with Mike Lees, Senior Director, BPM Product Marketing or Software AG about a BPM survey recently done by BP Trends. One of the things that surprised Mike was the number of C level business managers who completed the survey and who indicated that BPM was becoming a strategic initiative in organizations. However, one of the surprises was that while companies say they are seeking greater agility, they are actually not yet going through rapid iterations of processes, and do not yet have a culture of continuous process improvement.

As organizations are maturing, and adopting BPM on a strategic level, they are asking for more training and consulting, and creating BPM centers of excellence. According to Mke, these customers "understand the technology, and now need to change the culture."

Mike Mills is going to be part of the Process Management and the Bottom Line panel on June 18th, where he will be joined by industry visionary Dale Skeen, and analysts Derek Miers and Michael Dortch. Ken Vollmer, Principal Analyst, Forrester, will be keynoting the event and will present a "View From The Field – Is BPM Helping Companies Succeed?". ebizQ blogger Dennis Byron will be joined by Jim Sinur, Chief Strategy Officer, Global 360 (and former Gartner analyst) to discuss how putting BPM at the top of the stack helps the bottom line. Bruce Silver will present a keynote on "Business-Empowered BPM Implementation".

While last year we were still getting a lot of questions about how BPM was different from SOA, this event is all about how it is providing real business benefits, where it is still falling short, and what organizations should be thinking about over the next year to reap the rewards of the promised land of business agility.
