Call for CIO Questions

I'm shortly to do an interview on my CIOaudio web-streaming radio/podcast program with Greg Smith, VP and CIO of the World Wildlife Fund, who is author of the soon-to-be-published book,Straight to the Top: Becoming a World-Class CIO.

The book, which is being published by John Wiley and Sons, is "targeted toward information technology and business professionals with aspirations of landing a senior management position in information technology or who desire to become a top IT resource in their organization. The book aims to communicate an effective road map and share experiences from leading CIO experts toward becoming a first-time CIO."

If you have a question for Greg (other than where to get the book -- I'll get the Amazon link!), please provide it by 9am Tuesday, March 21st. We'll also be reviewing the book in future ebizQ publications, so stay tuned.

It might be interesting to learn how Greg leverages technology to get funds to the right place at the right time. With that, what suggestions does Greg have for agencies (red cross, FEMA) that have trouble distributing funds (correctly) in an emergency situation. How does SOA, SaaS, integration play in that? And, while I'm typing, what is the WWF's open source strategy? How does it tie to his non-profit status? Of course those are more about the WWF, than CIO ascension... On the CIO part... What are Greg's thoughts on how technical a CIO needs to be? Is it to converse with IT folks and translate to "C" level executives? Is it to set the technogy vision/direction? Or to vet the technology vision/direction? -brenda

It's too early to know how SaaS Integration plays role in WWF and other agencies, some agencies have no idea what really a SaaS, they must know salesforce. We can keep this question very simple: do they have subscriptions or contract with online software service providers of SaaS like salesforce, IBM or from IBM Partners or NetSuite, Nsite.
